“Desperate”
1 Samuel 1:9-11- So Hannah ate, pulled herself together, then slipped away quietly, and entered the sanctuary. The priest Eli was there at the entrance to God’s temple in the customary seat. 10) Crushed in soul, Hannah prayed to God and cried inconsolably. 11) Then she made a vow: Oh, Lord of host, if you will look, indeed at my pain, and remember me, and forget me no more, but will give me a son, I will give him completely, unreservedly to you. I will set him apart for a life of holy discipline.
When Hannah wanted a child, she became desperate and went to the sanctuary to pray. Her prayer shifted. Had God granted her request earlier on, she would’ve kept her son to herself and would’ve used it to get back at Peninah and said “Nanny nanny boo boo.” But as we see, she wanted to give Samuel back to God. This is what happens when we become desperate for something….we go to whatever lengths we can to make it happen, regardless of how hopeless things seem. Today, are you desperate for God more than the things of this world?
